"Duality" is a photo story of a porcelain figurine (or Kimidoll) that had been possessed by a demon. I believe that all toys have souls, therefore something to be possessed and something to fight for. The character has been designed like so, in two sections, the one where you can see that it's been possessed, expressed by pose, motion, props and so, and the other where the character begins to prepare to fight to get her soul back, and does so by removing her own heart etc.
I've dressed the figurine in a pretty floral short kimono in the possession part, and in black in the fight state.
In the beginning the whole project was supposed to go in a different direction and I was supposed to play the demon that did the possession, and wore the faces of his victims, but the creative tide took me in a different direction so I played the victim that was going to fight, and the torn face make up remained as a result of the possession.
All together with stylized geisha make up, fangs, sclera as button black eyes and pointe shoes, she's one of my favorite compact characters.
I plan on creating a performance around her story soon, which will present the possession and the fight through dance in about 4 minutes. With a parasol and a katana and the fake heart I made ad props...the works...
